About the role:

We are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer who will lead the design, research, and development of our award-winning Anya AI conversational chatbot and technology. This role can be fast-tracked to be Machine Learning (ML) lead.

 

As Machine Learning Engineer, you will: 

  • Take ownership of the maintenance and QA of our parenting chatbot Anya and the Natural Language Processing (NLP) pipelines around it in a production environment 
  • Lead the development of our brand new conversational agents as we expand onto other female health verticals (e.g. menopause and fertility)
  • Liaise with our clinical team to ensure the safety of our users, as well as highest quality algorithm predictions
  • Understand ML pipelines and lead the scoping, development, and deployment of ML projects
  • Lead the company’s AI R&D to leverage cutting-edge research and incorporate emerging technologies into Anya’s NLP and conversational AI solutions. 
  • Generate dashboards and utilise analytics to improve the performance of Anya’s ML’s algorithms and user experience of the conversational agent 
  • Understand machine learning models within the context of product requirements, always aspiring to improve the user’s in-app experience whilst maintaining the highest level of clinical safety  
  • Work closely with the product manager in an Agile development environment including sprint planning, user story prioritisation, task estimation, sprint implementation, and sprint review
  • Implement new software features, maintaining existing software, and write clean, scalable, and robust code
  • Produce clear and accurate technical documentation 
  • Support with R&D grant writing, bid writing, ideally paper writing 
  • Grow the AI team as the company expands 

Role requirements:

Who we are looking for:  

  • 4+ years industry experience in developing ML models and maintaining them in a production environment 
  • Solid understanding of machine learning concepts and algorithms, including supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning 
  • Solid understanding of NLP concepts and techniques (word embeddings, sentiment identification, sequence-to-sequence models, and attention mechanism, transformer technologies etc), as well as industry experience in having deployed NLP pipelines to production 
  • Excellent coding and software development skills. Must have solid experience using Python, including data science libraries (scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, etc.) and deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, Pytorch etc)  
  • Experience with Gemini, ChatGPT or any other LLM implementations, as well as understanding of prompt engineering  
  • Proven history of conducting research in machine learning, demonstrated through publications or research projects. 
  • Understand the structure of a modern ML team and how to build it ground up, recruit talent, and lead the ML team
  • Passion for making ethical and clinically safe AI algorithms
  • Excellent communication skills to key stakeholders and external audience 
  • BSc, MSc, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or similar experience working in industry
  •  

Desirable:

  • Experience with virtual agent platforms such as IBM Watson or DialogFlow 
  • Basic front and back-end programming experience  
  • Proven experience in GIT, Bitbucket and software source code control, merging, and integration
  • Proven experience in CI environments, unit testing, automatic testing, and in Test-Driven Development 
  • Proficient in data structure, algorithms, software design patterns/principles, and Object-Oriented Design
  • Team leading experience 
  • Experience in the Health Tech or Digital Health sector 
  • Experience in conducting user research, user focus groups, expert workshops and requirement gathering 
  • Proven ability and experience to work in start-up, small/dynamic teams, and fast-paced environment with little direction and quick decision making
