How NHS Teams Use BadgerNet for Digital Signposting Parents to Anya
BadgerNet is a digital maternity and neonatal record system used by NHS trusts to securely store and share pregnancy, birth, and postnatal care information. It gives healthcare professionals real-time access to patient records and enables parents to view their maternity notes through the Badger Notes app. Many of Anya’s public sector partners use BadgerNet as part of their maternity services, making it easier to provide digital resources and support to expectant and new parents.
Using BadgerNet for Digital Signposting is a great way to reduce some pressure from frontline staff.
A personal recommendation from a trusted healthcare professional is a very powerful message, but if we can make parents aware of Anya in other ways then it frees up appointment time for personal conversations.
Badger Notes allows parents real-time access to their maternity records and a bank of resources. An increasing number of our partners across the UK are now using BadgerNet, and in this blog, we have compiled some of the great ideas we’ve seen in action. Read on to find out three ways our partners use BadgerNet to signpost to Anya.
If your area doesn’t use BadgerNet, we’ve also included some alternative digital signposting ideas at the end of this blog.

1. Using BadgerNet for Digital Signposting
The simplest signposting is putting an Anya flyer in the library. Parents can view this at any time or clinicians can ‘share’ it with individuals if particularly relevant. This is the approach one of our Local Authority partners in the Northwest has chosen, and 17% of their users now join Anya via Badger Notes.
We have a mobile-optimised flyer that we have tailored specifically to share with parents via Badger Notes. Please ask your dedicated Client Success Manager if you would like a localised copy.
2. Push notifications
Notifications might be timed to coincide with other local initiatives or you could send push notifications on a calendar schedule. Herefordshire & Worcestershire send theirs on a fortnightly schedule. Either way, you can attach either a file or a download link.
If using a link, we recommend linking to your local Anya website landing page (https://anya.health/[AREA]) as this has both App Store and Google Play download links, as well as further information on what the app offers.
If using a file, we recommend the Anya BadgerNet flyer, as above.
3. Using the timeline
A common feature of healthcare appointments is having more areas to discuss than the time allows. One way to reduce the strain on front line staff is by automating Anya’s BadgerNet digital signposting to certain weeks in the pregnancy timeline. This can also increase the relevance of the messaging, as well as saving appointment time. Additionally, Healthcare professionals can use the resource library to add elements to individual patients’ timelines.
As an example, the framework Oldham are using for all pregnant women is:
- Antenatal
- Week 14: Anya poster
- Week 16: Anya link
- Week 30: Anya poster
- Week 32: Anya link
- Postnatal
- Day 3: Anya poster
- 2 weeks: Anya link
- 5 weeks: Anya poster
Suggested content for the message is:
Title: Anya: the Pregnancy, Feeding and Parenting Support App
Description: Anya is a parenting app that provides you with 24/7 evidence-based support and advice. The app is free for all [AREA] parents and includes a personalised antenatal programme, interactive breastfeeding support animations, empathetic AI chat and 121 support from clinical specialists. Read the leaflet to learn more.

Impact of BadgerNet for Digital Signposting
Oldham’s scheduled messaging went live at the beginning of November and that month Oldham’s parent sign-ups increased by 60%.

Herefordshire & Worcestershire launched in March 2023 and trialled fortnightly Badger Notes push notifications from September that year. This sustained the initial interest in the app and kept numbers climbing month-on-month.

17% of one of our Local Authority partners’ sign ups are referred by the leaflet in the Badger Notes library. This is the 2nd largest source, after referral by healthcare professionals.

Alternative channels for digital communication
Another platform aside from BadgerNet is sending SMS messages via a service such as SystmOne. When Camden set up digital signposting to Anya via SystmOne they saw monthly sign-up rates more than double.
We can also supply static and animated assets for social media posts or WhatsApp. If you have digital screens in your clinical spaces then we can provide content for those too. Each partner receives tailored digital assets at launch, but if there’s something specific you’d like please let us know and we’ll always try to accommodate.
